Georgia Games Omnium

by Chad Pepper
July 12-13, 2003

The cat5 race left the parking lot at 26 mph, about 50 racers strong. Boneshaker riders Eric for about a half mile then Chad for a half set the tone. Bigfoot riders along with cycle works joined in for the next 4 miles. After six miles and a 25-1/2 mph avg. the field cut to 25-30. The pace slowed to about 21 with a few 1 mile attacks scattered in until mile 20. The pace climbed back up over 23 to the finish. cycle works led out well with three guys to win, with Eric climbing to 4th at the line. I drug in with a 16th place finish. The TT was pretty flat and fast at 8 miles. The top five were at 18 minutes and
change with me in 4th place. Sundays crit did have good weather after the early morning rain. The went pretty smooth until the last lap, 5 guys in a two man turn. Well believe it or not 4 stayed up, but the two that didn't hit the brakes checked out leaving the 3rd place sprint to the rest of us. I finished in 5th which should put me in good shape for the overall omnium result. Final note at registration always pick up one of each copy on the table, about 5 guys didn't and the bible was wrong on start times, the amendment paper was right sorry dudes.
