Nalley Historic Roswell Crit

by Trish Albert, 5-4-2003

The Historic Roswell Crit took place on Sunday, May 4 right off of the square in Roswell. Hundreds of local and national caliber riders showed up to race on the 5 turn, fast course. Winning the men's 4/5 race was Eric May (Cycleworks) from Marietta. Eric said "The course sure was darn fast. Too bad there were no tattoo primes. I need another one." Behind Eric was the powerful Cycleworks team of Bryan Holloway, Shawn Flemming, Brad, and Chance Regina. Russ (Kalahari) won the 3/4 Men's race. Taking top honors in the Women's 3/4 crit was Micah Edwards from Birmingham Alabama. Emily Pullen (Roswell Velo) captured second. The Pro/1/2/3 Women's race featured a $2000 purse and tight competition with such national level teams as TDS, Diet Rite, Victory Brewing, Basis, and Genesis. The field stayed together for much of the race. Dahlonega Resident Tina Mayolo-Pic (Diet Rite) won the field sprint with Shannon Hutchinson (Colavita-Bolla) taking second and Gina Grain (Victory Brewing) in third. The men's race saw several breakaway attempts but came down to a field sprint in the end. Jonas Carney (Prime Alliance) edged out Schroeder Iron's Miguel Meza for the win. Alex Candelario (Prime Alliance) rounded out the podium. Confusion reigned after the men's race as Schroeder Iron and Navigators protested the finish. In the end, the results stood. Photos and interviews coming soon!
