Nalley Historic Roswell Crit Interviews

5-4-2003

Russ Griebel (Kalahari Cycling), Men's 3/4 Crit Winner

Nalley Crit: How did it feel to upset a couple of the teams that have a even more riders than you do?
Russ: It felt good out there today. I have to thank my teammates, Kalahari…I have to thank a few of the teams out there that picked up the pace that kept it strung out and kept it rolling.
Nalley Crit: How did you feel about the pace out there today?
Russ: It was a little slower than last year I think. Towards the end it picked up and strung out. It was fast at the end.
Nalley Crit: Was it the tea or your training that got you the win today?
Russ: The red tea all the way.

Southeastern Cycling: How does it feel to win probably one of the most prestigious races in the Atlanta area?
Russ: It felt great; it felt really great. I had great team support today. It was a fast roll out, strung out. I lucked out.
Southeastern Cycling: What are the Kalahari goals for the rest of the year? Are you doing any more of the NRC races or staying local?
Russ: Mostly stay local-the Southeast. Travel around a little bit and hopefully win some more races.

Shannon Hutchinson (Colavita-Bolla), 2nd 1/2/3 Women

Nalley Crit: You had a smaller team but you came out ok.
Shannon: Definitely. It worked to our advantage. We got to work off the other teams and the numbers.
Nalley Crit: So you let them beat each other up a little bit and to the front you go.
Shannon: Exactly.
Nalley Crit: Shannon, what’s next on the calendar for you.?
Shannon: Next I have a track race down in East Point…there is a track race on the 10th. Everyone should come down and watch. Then we will be heading up to New Jersey for Sommerville and that whole race weekend.

Southeastern Cycling: How does it feel to do so well in front of your hometown crowd.

Shannon: It’s nice. I enjoyed it. It would have been nice to get a first place, but second place was good as well.

Southeastern Cycling: What are your goals next weekend for the Grand Prix down in East Point? Are you going to have a team down there or down there solo?

Shannon: It will just be me. To be honest, I don’t know how many women are going to come out if there will be a big enough field for the women. I hope so.

Tina Pic, Winner Women's 1/2/3 Crit
Nalley Crit: My cohort over there and I were talking about team work out there and how there is a big orange wave. You faced a big challenge, though, from the TDS women from Canada and Pennsylvania.
Tina: Yeah, we sure did. I think women’s racing has really come along way with attacking and with both TDS and Genesis out there we really had our hands full, and it’s really awesome to have a great team to pull everything back and try to control the race. Really it’s not just the person that finishes but really everybody else that does the work all along the way. They really make it easy for me in the finish.

John Murphy (Krystal), Men's Pro/1 Race
Southeastern Cycling: You’ve been racing all week against the pros. What do you think about it?
John: It’s fast, real fast. It’s fun. Me and my Krystal boys have been trying to hit em and hit em hard.

Tim Henry (West Virginia), Men's Pro/1 Race
Southeastern Cycling: How was it out there today.
Tim: It was really fast. Probably fast as the other races this week. Nothing new.
Southeastern Cycling: How is your knee doing? Is it feeling any better?
Tim: Yeah. It didn't hurt. It started to feel a little tender towards the end but no actual pain. I made it through this week. Now I can rest this whole week. McMinnville will be the next time I can push it.
Southeastern Cycling: How was it out here racing in the historic part of your hometown?
Tim: I love it. Every corner I had people yelling my name, all the straightaways. My family came to town. It was great; I love it.
