  • Jim Burt took a trip to France in July to watch the little bike race that goes on over there then. Rumor has it some guy named Lance won it for the 5th time.

Jim and his friend Andrea rest in the middle of a ride in France.

  • 8-19-2003 Lethal Injection Report: The pace was not as brutal as is has been for the last several weeks thanks in part to the absence of a few of the "big guns." Darren Cox won the downhill sprint, Richie Tollison (BOR) won the KOM, and two of the Nalley guys battled it out for the final sprint. I think Daryl Sawyer won.

  • 8-12-2003 Lethal Injection Report: Shannon Hutchinson won the KOM for the second week in a row!! No one can knock her off the mountain!! She is not a force you want to mess with. Mathew Reeder from Boneshakers won the down hill sprint. Mitchell Askew from Boneshakers won the final stage sprint. The ride took the right turn onto old 278 and just past the new post office the accelerator was on the floor. After about 10 miles the lead group was down to about 8 or 9. Just before the stairstep the bottom dropped out of the sky and we could barely see, but no one was letting up. We were down to about 6 riders and after the KOM we were down to about 5. By the end of the second stairstep we had about 6 riders. Richie from Bicycle Outfitters, who had the yellow arm band from last week, had been dropped on the first stairstep but got back on. Mitch decided to exploit this and attacked Richie relentlessly on Brown road and Hiram-Powder road. By the time we got back on old 278 Richie was pretty much cooked from Mitch "McWhortering" him. About 3/4 mile from the finish Mathew gave Mitch a push from the back to launch him from the pace line and Richie Hunt from Bonehshakers followed. Richie Hunt and Mitch then proceeded to check out for the finish.

  • Trish went to the Spring City Cycling Weekend August 9-10 in Huntsville, AL. She was 5th in both the Women's 1/2/3 Road Race and Crit. Read about it

  • Check out the Races and Reports page for several new race reports and ride reports!

  • Mitch and Chad hammered it out with the first group at the Covington Century on August 3. Read all about it!

  • July 29's LI Ride Report (by Mitch) The group was a little smaller than usual and several of the heavy hitters were absent. The group went out fairly easy with a couple of minor attacks that did not go anywhere. Everyone stayed together a lot longer than any previous ride this year. Matt and little Tom attacked prior to the start of the KOM sprint. Mitch attacked at the base of the climb and passed both attackers to claim the red arm band for the KOM sprint. On the way to Danny's corner, Mitch, Randal, Darren, and Chad all from Boneshakers found themselves in a 10 second gap. I quickly yelled that we were off and organized us into a nice rotating pace line. We eased off a bit prior to the Brown road climb. Then we rotated again up Brown rd. After that we eased into a nice easy pace with a polished rotation. By the time we got on old 278 going towards the final sprint, it was Randal, Chad, myself. Chad really wanted an arm band so Randal and I said we would give it to him but he had to sprint for it after our lead out. Randal pulled first for a long distance. and pulled off, then I pulled at like 30+ for as long as I could and blew. Chad went off like a bottle rocket to claim the stage and his first arm band. Ave speed for us for the night was like 22.5 Good team work fellas.

  • July 22nd's Lethal Injection results from Mitch: Randal Hendrix from Boneshakers won the downhill sprint and the final stage sprint. Richie Hunt from Boneshakers won the KOM sprint. By the final sprint it was nothing but Boneshakers anyways.

  • Chad Pepper checks in with his report from the Georgia Games Cat. 5 Omnium. Eric won 4th place, and Chad was 16th in the Road Race. Chad blazed home to 4th in the Time Trial and 5th in the crit. Trish got 2nd in the 1/2/3 Women's crit but won the field sprint.

  • Lethal Injection Ride Report for July 8 by Mitch : The pace line going out looked a little more serious than in previous Tuesday nights. I guess everyone is really after the arm bands. Tom Hutchinson went for the Paulding Co. sign as someone in the peloton yelled "let him go, he ain't going anywhere". The pace up to the start of the KOM seemed fairly light. Everyone said the pace exploded on the first stair-step climb for the KOM sprint. John "the Machine" Mcwhorter from Boneshakers took the KOM/red arm band from Richie. The down hill sprint for the green arm band by Danny's corner was taken by Randal Hendrix. Randal gapped the peloton by enough of a margin around the corner that he said "no one really had a chance". The final sprint was once again a competition between Richie and McWhorter. Richie pulled out from behind McWhorter to take the stage win and get the yellow arm band. A new comer to the Lethal Injection ride by the name of Matt took third in the final stage. This pace must have been brutal because, post the first stair-step climb the peloton was strung out and peeps were dropping like flies into smaller groups more so than I have ever seen before.

Mitch Askew and Chris Jackson (Both-Boneshakers) sprint for the final at the Lethal Injection ride.

  • Eric reports in from the Cartersville Century: Hey guys I'm posting some stuff that was cool about the Cartersville century. Overall the century kick much ass and was very fun because of the surrounding riders that rode the century with us. first off, the century was COVERED with RBM and Cycleworks jerseys, so people were actually making the century a race, figure that. Well during the ride madman Chris Jackson broke off the front with Phil, Roy and
another RBM rider, so I thought, well h*ll, lets give it a shot. We passed Garth b/c he began a little earlier and caught on the back. The breakaway was a success, even though I dropped off early b/c I wanted to finish the century. Chris, you're a machine! But through out the ride I met a lot of new people and did a whole lot of the pulling, our avg speed was to be said at 22.5 mph so I knew that we were hauling some a**. This is a century I'll definitely do again. My mom even came out for support, sorry no pics. Will never forget this century b/c it was my first.

  • Tuesday, June 24 Lethal Injection Ride--Mitch's report "Man, this has become a really fun "cat and mouse" ride for these stupid cheap arm bands with funny colors. Everyone seems to be rising to the challenge and riding their best. I am really happy to see a lot of new faces this year. We have had a combination of really fast new comers and beginners. All are welcome!! The ride went out pretty easy, but then steadily picked up speed. Our "Team Mom" Eric's mom Tracy was at every sprint line and at the top of the king of the Mountain sprint line taking pics and ringing the cow bell. B/w her camera, Danny and his camera at Danny's corner, and the bell I felt like we were on OLN! Mitchell Askew took the first county line sign, but no one else was buying. The second sprint was led out by Eric and Randal took it. (Good team work fellas) Chris Jackson, Richie, and Mitchell Askew broke
away on the first stairstep for the KOM sprint. Mitch started to blow and backed off. Richie was looking very strong, but Madman Chris Jackson came up with the goods. Mitch and Chris then worked together and stayed away the rest of the night. Ave for Chris and Mitch was 22 mph. Mitch got the down hill sprint past Danny's corner and Chris got the final stage sprint as well. Tom A. and Bentrider came in looking very strong. I was so excited to hear that Tom A averaged 19.5!!!!!! My prediction he will break 20 before August!! Way to go Tom!! I was a little disappointed in Joubse (sp?) taking the wrong turn I rode with him on the trail on Monday and he had some snap in his legs. I was really interested in hearing how he did and what his ave was. I think he is going to be a force to be reconned with here pretty soon! Maniac finished really strong as well and average 19.4 which is great! You all and everyone that rode last night really looked strong and I hope you all keep coming out. I love seeing cyclists exceed their goals beyond what they thought they could ever do!!"

  • The Boneshaker's Team did the Union City Omnium this weekend. Trish did the time trial and crit on Saturday placing 20th in each race in the Women's Pro/1/2/3 division. Mitch did the Cat. 4 RR Sunday, and Erik and Chad represented Boneshakers in the Cat. 5 RR. Check out the reports

  •                                                     Trish doing the Women's 1/2/3 TT at Union City

  • Two new rides will leave from Boneshakers starting Monday, June 23! The Monday ride will go on the Silver Comet from Powder Springs to Smyrna, about 20 miles and will average about 15 mph--a great recovery ride. Be ready to leave the shop at 5:30. The second one will be on Thursdays and will average 15-16 mph. It will leave the shop, go on the Comet, through downtown Dallas, left on Olivette Rd., and back on the Comet to the shop for a total of 32 miles. It leaves at 5:30.

Big Ring Tommy goes off the Front during the Lethal Injection ride. Come get McWhortered, beat up by Jackson, and carried away by Big Ring at the Lethal Injection Tuesdays at 6:30. The ride leaves from Boneshaker Bicycles. Be there or be a Pansy! (There is a great B group, too!) Photo courtesy of Danny R. Moore.

  • Lethal Injection ride report 6-17-2003 by Mitch

The ride was a little bit faster than last weeks by averaging about 22 mph. The two Toms, Big Ring Tommy and Tom Lilly, broke off and attacked early. The lead group managed to stay together for the whole ride and was about 10 strong. Everyone riding with us from last year has improved a lot. Everyone was riding their best last night, it seemed. Mitch Askew and Chris Jackson did several attacks to snap the rubber band but the pack managed to hold the line. A rider new to our ride, Paul, gave Mitch a run for his money for the KOM sprint. Mitch pulled it off winning the red climbers arm band. Eric Anderson lit it up around Danny's corner and at 41.5 mph won the green sprinters arm band. Going for the final/stage sprint Chris counted down and led Mitch out for the final sprint. Mitch's right leg was cramping and he had to remain seated. Chris led out at 37 mph and when he pulled off, Mitch had nothing to sprint with. Randal Hendrix, however, did have something to sprint with. Getting out of the saddle and from behind Mitch sprinted for the yellow arm band/ stage win at 40 mph. The arm bands will be given out to be defended next Tues. see you all next week for your injection.

  • Lethal Injection News from Mitch (Boneshakers Fearless Leader)
I am taking our ride to the next level. I have been wanting to do this for a while but wanted to wait for the right time. It is time. Basically, our ride from the get go became a friendly race b/w us even though no one will openly admit it. I think that is what makes our ride unique. You can attack or do whatever whenever and on one cares or gets upset. The following rules/regulations will be set up only for safety, and to keep the insignia available for the following week winner. There will be three arm bands. One Yellow for the final sprint/stage win; One Green for the down hill sprint/sprinters band: One Red for the climbers band KOM (KOM white spray painted line about 20 yards from the stop sign at the top of the first stairstep climb). Anyone crossing a yellow line, running a traffic light, etc. for the win will be disqualified. The ride is neutral from shop to Powder Springs rd and from Powder Springs road back to the shop. Any persons winning an arm band for a category will be awarded that armband the FOLLOWING week at 6:25 during the riders meeting to be worn on the left arm for that ride to defend it. At the end of that nights ride weather it was defended or lost it will be turned back into Randal, myself, Chad, or Buster to be given out the following week. (This is just incase the person does not show up the following couple of weeks, we would like to have the arm band.)
If a person wins a category but then does not show up the following week to defend it, they are automatically forfeiting any rights to the arm band in the future and will have to win it again on the ride. any questions, gripes, complaints, or bitches please direct them to me and we can amend or fix the rules. The arm bands will be ready and the "race" starts next Tuesday" Trish's note: June 17??

  • June 9 update! The Boneshaker's Team has been quiet lately. We've been in stealth training. Join us for the Cartersville Century June 28. We will be there in force!! Register at www.active.com. I'm sure the boyz will be doing the 100 mile option!

Fred was doing some stealth training in another county this weekend that
involved a lot of junk food. Burt was rumored to be there as well. Rumors have Fred also at the Tri ride on Saturday braving the rain.

ChrisJ spanked the boyz on the Sunday "Secret Handshake" ride in White, GA.

DC has been preparing for the GAP series that resumes in a few weeks.

"The Junior" has been pounding intervals from his house after graduating high
school in May. The Junior has also been playing "Street Skiing" on the Acworth ride, accumulating some road rash in the process.

Bikegod has been rumored to be training 10 hours a day in preparation for
    something. We don't know what.

WGBM (World's Greatest Bicycle Mechanic) has been keeping everyone up and running.

Jorje is MIA after breaking several bones in April.

    Upcoming Boneshaker's Races:

  • Getting John Mcwhortered by Mitch Askew "John Mcwhortered" Use it in a sentence. O.k. I saw a guy not pulling his weight, just pulling through. He was trying to  conserve for the final sprint. So every time it was my turn to pull the line I would John Mcwhorter his a*s.

    Definition
John McWhortered- To pull the line so hard, fast, and consistent so as not to allow anyone in the line to completely recover from their own pull let alone to pull the line with any effectiveness. Laymen's terms Def. John Mcwhorter- To pull the line at 27+ mph uphill against a head wind for 2 miles.

I would also like to coin the phrase Chris Jackson tempo. Chris Jackson tempo- Controlling the pace of the ride and forcing the average to peak above it's norm. Ex. When he rides the ride everyone averages 23, 24, or 25 depending on the mood of  the Madman. When he takes the day off - we all average around 20, 21, 22 depending on how hard we can go.

  • Congratulations to the riders that participated in the State Time Trial Championships. Because they were held on a holiday weekend, Boneshakers had only two riders, but both placed very well. Chad Pepper was 4th in the Men's Category 4/5 (combined) time trial with a time of 55:04. Trish Albert won the Silver Medal in the Women's 1/2/3 field. Way to go!

Racing for Team Peggy-Boneshakers, Trish won the Sport Senior Women's division at the Stump Jump AMBC Mountain Bike race in Spartanburg, SC on May 18. Trish reports that the course was a mud pit and that it rained during the race.

Rider wait around for the start of the Lethal Injection ride in May. Photo courtesy of Buster.

  • The Lethal Injection is still on! Come to the shop and ride with us every Tuesday at 6:30 throughout the summer.

  • Who is this Boneshaker's guy at the Cheaha Challenge??

  • The team has been busy racing and participating in different organized rides. Chad Pepper and Jim Burt recently rode the Cheaha Challenge in Alabama on May 4. Chad finished with a time of 4 hours, 19 minutes, and Jim finished in 4 hours, 42 minutes. Jim is busy preparing for Mt. Mitchell on May 17. On May 4, Mitch Askew finished mid-pack in the Nalley Historic Roswell Crit 3/4 race. Trish Albert hung in until 5 to go in the Women's 3/4 race but had to pull out because of a mechanical.

  • Much of the team will be out at the Roswell Crit this weekend. Good luck! Mitch-3/4, Eric-4/5, Chris-2, Trish-Women 3/4.

  • Jim Burt, the Boneshaker's Team Multisport athlete, recently ran the Jonquil Jog 5K race. He placed in the top 5% overall with a 26th placing of 578 entries. He was 22 of 226 men and 6 of 31 in his age group (Men 35-39). Congratulations Jim!

  • Mitch reports in about Wednesday night's Acworth Ride (April 16). Bob Cagle, "Madman" Chris Jackson, John "The Machine" McWhorter, and Greg Turner showed up last night. Need I say anymore. We averaged around 25 mph. We went from about 15-20 down to about 10-12 real quick. The hammer dropped almost immediately after leaving the parking lot. The sprints were out of control and so was the pace. Chris and Bob kept the pace high as well as Turner. John McWhorter get the props for the day by pulling Daryl Sawyer towards the down hill sprint, but John pulled so hard and fast the Daryl could not get around him. John took the sprint and was his own lead out man never getting out of the Saddle. I actually stopped peddling and just watched. I thought I was watching OLN for a sec. The entire line was amazed and in disbelief. It is truly a privilege to ride with these guys. Mitch.

  • Congratulations to all of the racers who went to the Raccoon Road Race on April 13! Chad had a strong showing in the Cat. 5's. Eric was 2nd in the Juniors, Mitch for caught up in a wreck and finished just in front of the main pack, and Bob put in a valiant effort despite not having any teammates.

  • The Boneshaker's Cycling Team is proud to announce a new member of the team. Pro mountain biker Bob Cagle will be racing for Boneshakers-Ace Electric off road. Bob will also don a Boneshakers jersey on the road in Pro/1/2 events. Welcome Bob!

  • Congratulations to Jim Burt! Jim placed 3rd in the 35-39 Age Group at the Geico Duathlon in Macon, GA on April 5!

  • The Lethal Injection ride starts Tuesday, April 8!! Daylight Savings Time is almost here!

  • Mitch reports on the David Friedkin Memorial Ride

  • The Brooks Pictures are up! Jim, Mitch, and Trish each check in with reports on Brooks.

  • Chad Pepper, Eric Anderson, and Jim Burt after the Cat. 5 Road Race at Brooks

  • The 26 mile Brooks course is relatively flat to rolling with two small hills. The course is open to cars except for the last 200 yards, which were completely closed off during the finishes.

Boneshakers had a good showing in the Cat. 5 crit. Jim Burt, Eric Anderson, and Chad Pepper represented the team in the Cat. 5 road race. They started near the back and worked their way up throughout the race to the front. They encountered a wall of riders at times and could not get through. Near the end of the race, several riders crashed in front of Chad. He immediately veered to the left, went around, and moved up several places. The pace was high as the field completed one lap of the 26 mile course. One rider commented that it was the fastest he had ever done 26 miles. Eric placed 8th, Chad was13th, Jim finished safely in the main pack at 24th.

Before heading to his car to take a nap, Chris Jackson said that he was mid pack in the Pro/1/2 race. No one could gather further details.

Several crashes marred the Cat. 4 men's race. Breakaways went but were always  reeled back in. The flat course does not lend itself kindly to those that try to get away. Bryan Holloway commented that "the squirrel factor was high." Racers are always nervous the first few races of the year. Mitch held on to a solid placing of 17th in a field of nearly 70.

  • Sunday, the Boneshaker’s Team had a strong showing. In the Cat. 5 crit, both Jim Burt and Chad Pepper placed in the Top 15. Chris Jackson hung in for the entire Pro/1/2 race that would see many strong riders quit. Mitch Askew rode well in the Cat. 4 crit with a placing in the Top 15. Trish gave it her best in the Women’s 1/2/3 crit, but Genesis proved too strong. About half the field got dropped when Genesis put the hammer down about 10 minutes into the crit.

  • Come to our team ride!

  • A message from Team Director, Mitch Askew:

    March 10, 2003

To my old teammates from Nalley/Eagle club of last year. (Pat C., Dub S., Scott, and Jeff Tricoff) Thank you very much for your support in the Donaldson Center RR in Greenville on Sunday March 11, 03. It was a pleasure to race with you all. You all could not have been nicer or more supportive to me, especially post my wreck. It was like we were all on the same team.

Times have changed and so have the teams we all ride for, but not the friendship and respect we have for one another. Dub said it best the other night when he said that "We Marietta/Acworth boys gotta stick together". I really appreciate your friendship, respect, and support. You all can count on my support any time. It is guys like you that I want to ride and race with.

    Respectfully Submitted & your friend,

    Mitchell Askew

Mitch got mixed up in a crash of about 20 guys on Sunday, March 9th after a tire blow out. His rear Zipp was sacrificed to the cycling gods. RIP Zipp!

  • Chad and Jim have decided to start going to the Gaps as often as possible. Trish felt their wrath on March 8th as they drug her around Three Gap. Trish commented that her "legs felt like cement blocks for 2 days afterwards."

  • Tundra TT Results are Up! The Tundra TT Results are up! Also, check out the race report and pictures. Split times on the results are UNOFFICIAL and are for racer reference only. Mark Kebbekus (Trek/VW/NARC) won the Overall at the Tundra Time Trial. Saul Raisin (Ofoto-Lomardi) was 2nd with Jason Chapman in 3rd.

  • Tundra Time Trial The First Annual Boneshaker's Tundra Time Trial was a HUGE success! Thank you to everyone that raced and to our sponsors! Results and a full report will be available soon.

Racers are already saying good things about it!

Rick Alembik said: "Just a note of thanks for putting on  the time trial today. I hope you all put this on on a regular basis. It makes for a great way to track fitness, especially starting so early in the season, plus it is good competition."
