News and Race Reports Southeastern Cycling needs YOUR news! Want to write for one of the leading websites in the Southeast? Want to have a place to publish your news, race reports, and photos? Please email me for if you would like to help. Although SE Cycling is based in Atlanta, we publish news from all over the Southeast. Promoters: if you would like your event listed, please send us an email. We are happy to list all road (TT, Crit, RR, omnium), cyclocross, mtb (XC, DH, DS, etc.), and track/velodrome events. Southeastern Cycling does not cover inline skating, BMX, "extreme" sports, etc. **This Weekend** What? Nothing going on? Get your groove on at the WBL or Airport ride. Upcoming Races: That's it-go to the Airport ride or the WBL for your racing fix. Wait til February for the Greenville Training Series. Asheville is hosting a track training series from January 4-March 22 on Thursdays and Saturdays. Email George Riedesle for more information. The GC Cycling Club in Birmingham is hosting a training series on Feb. 23, March 2, and March 9. See their website for all the details. The East Point Velodrome Association is 2-5-2003 Job Opening The Georgia Department of Transportation is looking for a Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator. Job responsibilities include developing and maintaining the State Bicycle and Pedestrian Ways plan. Full details about the job are on the GADOT website. 2-6-2003 Boneshaker's on Cyclingnews.com! The 2003 Boneshaker's Cycling Team Roster can be seen today on Cyclingnews.com! The Boneshaker's Cycling Team, a regional team based out of Atlanta, Georgia, has announced its roster for the 2003 season. Boneshaker's will compete in regional road and mountain bike races as well as selected National Racing Calendar (NRC) and NORBA National races. In addition to racing, the Boneshaker's Team will raise money for the Silver Comet trail, a rail-trail located in Cobb County, Georgia and will volunteer at bicycle safety events. winter training ride on Saturday, Feb. 4. Distances of 30, 55, and
70 miles area available. Rest Stops will be open during the ride. Southeast USA Cycling Mailing List Want to receive announcements about races from the USA Cycling Coordinators? Subscribe to the mailing list. Members will be able to post messages. 2-7-2003 Realitybikes.com Rider Injured Realitybikes.com rider Reed Watson was injured Feb. 5 in an accident with a car in Six Mile, SC. According to cyclingnews.com, Reed broke his wrist when he and friends Chris Eatough and Thad Dulin were riding. A pick up truck struck Dulin and Watson. Southeastern Cycling wishes Reed a speedy recovery! Better Late Than Never I had not seen any information on this until today. The Atlanta Bicycle Campaign will be hosting the annual "Bicycle Morning At The Capitol" on Tuesday, Feb. 11 from 8:30-noon at the Central Presbyterian Church at 201 Washington St., Atlanta. Cycling Summit Proceedings The proceedings from the cycling summit in January are available on the ABC website. UGA Cycling Team The UGA Cycling Team has updated its website for 2003-2004. Check out some of the "old skool" pictures and see if you can find someone you know! USCF Officials Clinic On February 16, there will be a USCF officials clinic in Burlington, NC for those individuals wanting to become a Cat. 4 official or upgrade from Cat. 4 to Cat. 3 official. A clinic will be held in the morning with testing immediately following the clinic. Email Chips Chapman for full details. 2-10-2003 Tundra Time Trial A Success! Thank you! Thank you to everyone who raced in the Tundra Time Trial in Hiram yesterday! Approximately 60 riders braved freezing temperatures and a 9.2 mile course to see who would take home the Golden Hammer award. Look for a full report later today and pictures later in the week. Results will also be up ASAP! We are working on them...... Fulton Flyers on Velonews The Fulton Flyers got a recent mention at Velonews regarding their team roster for 2003 GAP News The Georgia Association of Promoters has released the schedule for 2003. There will be a new division called Super Sport that is open to men and women. It is for those who have upgraded from Sport but do not wish to race expert. For your entry fee, you will be racing for medals. Let's hope the entry fee is less for "less for your high entry fee." In a setback for women, the Junior Sport Women's category has been eliminated. The license fee has been raised to $15. A change to the SORBA Paydirt program was also passed. Riders can now earn points for 3 hours instead of 10. On-line registration is also available for all of the GAP races. Race entry fees have also increased to $28/race. 2003 Calendar Updated I've updated the 2003 Calendar to include the GAP Races. What Kind of Racer Are You? What kind of racer are you? Just for fun? 2-11-2003 Tundra TT Results are Up! The Tundra TT Results are up! Also, check out the race report and pictures. Split times on the results are UNOFFICIAL and are for racer reference only. The "Best Turn Around of the Day Award" went to Cat. 5 former mountain biker Shawn Flemming. He executed a perfect "moto-style" turn.
Mark Kebbekus (Trek/VW/NARC) won the Overall at the Tundra Time Trial. Saul Raisin (Ofoto-Lomardi) was 2nd with Jason Chapman in 3rd. Oak Mountain Back to the Drawing Board Public Outcry has caused Oak Mountain State Park in Birmingham, AL to rethink its decision to pave the popular Red Trail. Officials said that they received over 1000 emails and complaints against the proposal to pave the trail as part of an upgrade to the park.
