Atlanta Group Road Rides

These rides are put on by various organizations and bike shops. Some rides do not have a leader and are "pick up rides." Always check with the ride leader, if there is one, for a ride map. Call the ride leader or shop to verify that the ride is still going on. Unless specified, these are hard training rides geared towards advanced riders and racers and those that have group riding experience. Aerobars are not allowed on group rides. If you have them, do NOT ride in them in the group. Expect to be dropped and be on your own if you cannot keep up with the group. If you want a more relaxed ride or are a beginner, the Southern Bicycle League hosts rides for all levels of cyclists. Cycling is a dangerous sport. Southeastern Cycling, Trish Albert, and the sponsoring ride groups are not responsible if you get lost or hurt on these rides. You ride at your own risk and assume all responsibility for yourself and your equipment. All ride times give are Daylight Savings Time unless noted. Many rides stop after Daylight Savings Time ends. Check with the sponsoring organization for specifics about any rides.

Intown Ride Schedule From Todd Fryburger:

Recognizing that Summer is fleeting, and the days are getting shorter, it is with heavy heart that I set forth the official Fall schedule for the “In-Town Classics”.

Be advised that, as 2007 marked the advent of a new schedule for Daylight Saving Time (DST), the clocks will “fall back” one week later than in past years. Hence, DST will end at 02:00 AM ET on Sunday 11/04/07 - this is when you will set your clock back one hour. DST will return again in the Spring at 02:00 AM ET on Sunday 03/09/08, meaning the “off-season” will now only be 18 weeks.

When setting the schedule, we’ve always tried to maintain at least 90 minutes between the start of a given ride and sunset. Last night, the sunset was at 08:26 PM ET, the same as it was during the second week of May, and sunset is about one minute earlier each evening going forward.

As such, by the powers vested in me by the tribal elders, I hereby set forth the following decree:

Week of 09/10/07 - Start times for the Sandy Springs (Tuesday), Peachtree Battle (Wednesday) and Chastain (Thursday) rides move from 06:30 PM ET to 06:15 PM ET. The Sandy Springs ride moves to “short options”, meaning the ride will no longer traverse the Vinings “three humps”.

Week of 09/24/07 - Start times for the Sandy Springs (Tuesday), Peachtree Battle (Wednesday) and Chastain (Thursday) rides move from 06:15 PM ET to 06:00 PM ET.

Week of 10/08/07 - Start times for the Sandy Springs (Tuesday), Peachtree Battle (Wednesday) and Chastain (Thursday) rides move from 06:00 PM ET to 05:45 PM ET.

Week of 10/22/07 - Start times for the Sandy Springs (Tuesday), Peachtree Battle (Wednesday) and Chastain (Thursday) rides move from 05:45 PM ET to 05:30 PM ET, and will remain so until the end of DST.

Week of 10/29/07 - This will be the final week for the Sandy Springs (Tuesday), Peachtree Battle (Wednesday) and Chastain (Thursday) rides - all start times remain at 05:30 PM ET.

Sunday 11/04/07 - DST ends at 02:00 AM ET - set your clock back one hour.

Saturday 11/10/07 - The Tucker Ride (Saturday) assumes “Winter hours”, hence the start time moves from 09:00 AM ET to 10:00 AM ET.

Sunday 03/09/08 - DST begins at 02:00 AM ET - set your clock forward one hour.

Saturday 03/15/07 - The Tucker Ride (Saturday) assumes “Summer hours”, hence the start time moves from 10:00 AM ET to 09:00 AM ET.

As always, the “Secret Handshake Sunday Ride” led by Gregg Limbird will start at 09:00 AM ET, regardless of season, because “the Sunday Ride changes for no one”.
